Software Engineering

Broad software engineers work directly with scientists to build applications that organize, process, and visualize the more than 24 terabytes of sequencing data that our Broad researchers produce daily. We make these open-source tools freely available to researchers around the world.

The software we create helps unlock insights into diseases like autism, schizophrenia, diabetes, HIV, and cancer. It’s challenging, critically important work that demands constant learning — and it happens in a friendly, casual, inclusive environment that promotes work-life balance.

Individual requirements vary, but in general, our software engineers display a breadth and depth of technical knowledge and join the Broad eager to participate in complete software application life-cycle development and production best practices. A background in biotech or research is not required — the most important qualification is a desire to do meaningful work that will enhance science and make a positive difference for human health. If that describes you, see what opportunities we have for you to become a Broadie.
